The search for the missing Burundian journalist has uncovered bodies of two unknown people.
The bodies, thought to be of men, were discovered in the Mubarazi River in the part of Burundi where Iwacu Group Press journalist Jean Bigirimana disappeared two weeks ago 30 kilometres from the capital Bujumbura.
“We have just recovered two bodies in river Mubarazi as you have seen. You have helped us to carry the them and we are now taking them to the morgue at Muramvya Hospital pending the result,” said Evariste Ndikumana, a Civil Rights officer.
Bigirimana, a reporter with a local newspaper left his home in the capital Bujumbura around lunch time on July 22, after receiving a phone call from a source in the country’s national intelligence service, according to local media in Burundi.
The organization of reporters without boarders have also condemned the incident on attacks against journalist in Burundi. They have called on the government to help in investigations.
